Decade Decay_ Old Film Filming Film Experiments

I have a draw full of old 35mm films that I have not processed yet, today I had a sudden flash decision to go and get three of them processed. One came back mostly ok, one has lost it's integrity and came back nearly all red, and the third had no film in it, well a couple of inches that had been torn off, so don't know what happened there. The other film isn't particularly interesting, but this one that is red has got some real gems! From about 2002, so the film is over ten years old, when I lived with my brother Stuart in a village called Usk in South Wales.
Stuart was studying Animation & Film at Uni. Here you can see Stuart working on a project to film from a push-bike, we had some fun going around the local area filming in different places with this helmet mounted camera, and I do remember at least one incident when I was cycling with it on, it slipped and I crashed into a very old Welsh wall, result-incredible pain in my knee.

Having seen these photos I am now going to try and get as many of them processed as soon as I can, stay tuned!

These 2 images below are of a Hanimax slide projector that I have taken to pieces,  to generally see how it works, and to experiment with the lens etc. loads of fun.

Standard burnt out car shots, but this one with the colour fades looks great, they look much more apt with the dramatic red.

Not sure which I like more, the full red version, or the colour creeping through, the vague rainbow-ness of the second one gives it a slightly psychedelic feel.

I prefer this in the red, you can see below where theactual colours are coming through.

AbstractInstagram
An ongoing series of  work, quick simple images, always completely abstract, made from the everyday environment. They are made on a HTC and usually just have a couple of filters etc. Keeps me eagle eyed for colours and textures around me, and I really enjoy the rapidity the decision making process.

Spring Equinox 2012_ A Celebration

This work was all photographed on the Spring Equinox of March 2012
and finalised  the same week.  I have always had
an interest in the idea of photography on the Solstice's and Equinox's as
they  are day's concerned with  the measurements of light levels.

The "Blades of Spring" image feels like a cross section of a plant or branch, the green life-force pushing up the middle shooting up to form the new bud,
pushing the thickness of the branch outwards
calcifying and forming the new stem, twig or branch, reaching for the light.
"Blades of Spring"

"I could be fast like spring"

I am a lover of nature and I'm constantly amazed as I
watch the season unfold around me, the colours changing, scenes reacting
to the light as photo-sensitive paper does to images being exposed on it,
fading, changing, turning in time. Spring has the unique feeling
of catching you off guard, just as you've sunk into deepest winter,
Bam! there it is rushing into the world with a gracious tenancity.
The force of nature, the re-birth, the power of light.
I hope I have captured some of  nature's energy in these images.

I have produced a lot of work on the Equinox this year,
so keep an eye for more material which will be uploaded soon.

Medeshamstede, artwork from Peterborough Cathedral

This series of 12 images are inspired by Peterborough Cathedral.
"Medeshamstede" was the Anglo-Saxon name for the
7th century monastery founded at this location.
"Medeshamstede"  also gave it's  name to the
village which later  become Peterborough.

This set of work came about as part of the "Art in the Heart"
project run by Dawn Birch-James for the
Peterborough Tourist Information Centre.
Medeshamstede #5
I have wanted to produce some proper work based on this
astonishing building for as long as I can remember,
and have done bits and pieces based on it, outlines, rough ideas
and so on,but never sunk my teeth into the challenge.

Dawn asked me if I would like to get involved, and that
it was based on Peterborough landmarks, so it seemed
the perfect timeto put some energy into the idea.
Medeshamstede #8

The original photograph is my own, so there are 12
images in the series and the original photograph they all come from.

The actual size of these pieces starts at 22" x 23"  upwards.

The original photograph was taken on Feb 21st, 2012.
To buy cards and prints of these images, or for more details
and work by other artists in the project follow the link below;

BEACON

I have been very lucky to have the opportunity to help produce an experimental audio-visual event such as this inside a church.

As far as we know this is the first event of it's kind in Peterborough, it will be a unique night of improvised electronic music & visual performances inside a beautiful 14th Century church.

Set up with the help of Keely Mills, the events co-ordinator at St. Johns, this very special performance is being organised by myself and Robert White.

Hradesin is an organization engaged in the production of multi-media installations that encompass music, film and photography with an emphasis on collaboration & improvisation.

The music will be perfomed by Intercalaris (a.k.a Richard Stenton + Luke Deane)
& Hradesin using a variety of instruments and electronic devices along side a performance of a baroque recital by Kasandra's Magic Pylon Band.

The projections will be both analogue and digital, with my visual being improvised live and with photography & video by Robert White, photography by Nathan Wieckowski alongside the work of NO!Art photography of the fens group -an online photographers collaboration  on FaceBook.

The church will be lit completely up with projections onto the  and screens- it should be stunning!

Could this be considered as a 21st century meditation using light & sound? I don't know, maybe the audience can help us answer that on the night.

I am personally very excited by the whole project, I have been performing live visuals, albeit sporadically, for many years, but never had a space like to work with. Also of interest, I have never worked previously with these musicians or rehearsed, so it will be a truly live improvisation collaboration...so the results will be genuinely guided by our intuitive spirits.
